Albert & Victoria was founded in Melbourne in 2011 by Melissa Langford. Inspired by her mother’s wardrobe, a love of vintage and bohemian expression, nostalgia and hedonism is central to the A&V ethos. Feel-good prints and unexpected colour combinations are Melissa’s signature, while soft feminine silhouttes speak to the comfort and ease of everyday dressing. Each Albert & Victoria piece is designed to be loved and worn for a long time. .
A little more about Melissa…
My role in Albert & Victoria is designer, maker and founder. I am passionate about limited edition and one of a kind designs and treasure, an interest born from a love of vintage, travel and art. I came into clothing design because I was intrigued by my grandmother’s sewing skills, watching her take the lining out of the dining room curtains and making a beautiful gown was a pivotal moment. She DID go to the ball after all!!
My inspiration comes largely from the beautiful women and their bohemian combinations of the 1970s. In our lovely boutique store I enjoy the connection with our customers, seeing them loving the way the garments look, feel and move.
I don’t want to add to the excessive amount of overproduction that has occurred, I want to design beautiful pieces that don’t require a head to toe commitment, pieces that can be easily mixed into your existing collection and be loved for a long time.
Meet Charlotte…
I am a visual merchandiser, stylist and creative and most proudly, Melissa’s daughter! I have always been inspired by mum’s creativity and beautiful designs and have had the privilege of being her right hand gal for as long as I can remember. I was always encouraged to pursue any and every creative adventure which has led me to most recently come on board to lead our visual merchandising and creative direction in both our boutique and online stores here at Albert & Victoria.
I too, am passionate about the one-of-a-kind and share mums love of the 70s. My aesthetic combines my love of art, nature, mid-century design, sustainability and the boho ethos. I love to transform and create spaces that capture and celebrate the aesthetic and spirit of brands and beautiful designs.
Every Albert & Victoria garment is hand-made in Melbourne. We design each of our pieces with the intention of creating pieces that can be worn and loved for a long time, with minimal waste and minimal carbon footprint.
